Festival Fashion Through The Ages

Paisley, distressed denim, cowboy booties and eccentric headdresses. Festival grounds around the world have seen it all. As we inch closer to festival season and arguably the most anticipated music festival of the year, Coachella, we're left looking back at fashion archives of the biggest music festivals of yesteryear. The Summer of Love, Woodstock, Burning Man and last year's Splendour In the Grass all have distinct styles that reflect the zeitgest of the period.

Summer of Love was a gathering of electic flower children in the San Francisco neighbourhood of Haight-Ashbury who wanted to listen to music, create art and vibe out with like-minded people who saw the world in a different light. The festival goers sported wild floral prints, oversized sunglasses and delicately embroidered gems.

Joni Mitchell one said that 'Woodstock was a thing of beauty'. She knew it then and we know it now. People roamed around barefoot and weren't opposed to layers and mixing prints.

The first Burning Man was unlike any other festival before its time. The festival lit a fire in the hearts of many whose festival flames had long been extinguished and it ignited a passion for live music in the youth of the time. Most of the attendees embraced the jokers within and opted for costumes instead of the 'festival uniforms' of the previous years.

Last year's festival fashion revisited some of our favourite trends from previous seasons: intricately detailed kimonos, bandeau tops, fishnet stockings, printed headbands and statement jewellery.

We're unsure what threads the festival faithful will be wearing this year but we predict the styles will be memorable.
